Growing up everyone else was coping better than I was. Somehow they could remember appointments and deadlines, they had the discipline to keep an updated planner and they didn’t drift off daydreaming in the middle of important conversations. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

So many hours listening to podcasts and now I am on one! Turned out ok! Here are my views on why RuPaul's drag race is amazing, via Royal College of Psychiatrists rcpsych.ac.uk/news-and-featu…

Reflecting today how little of my work involves the application of knowledge. 90% or more is about emotional intelligence & communication (empathy, trust, collaboration etc). I think that's why I chose Child Psychiatry.

1/ Three men in clinic yesterday. The first was living with #HIV. He had been in a two year relationship and was lied to by his partner with regards to their HIV status. He subsequently tested positive himself 12 years ago, and has now been celibate for five years.

We might have missed the point with Dido Harding’s desire to ensure all NHS staff aren’t “foreigners”. Perhaps what she means is every professional who is kind enough to share their expertise with this country should be given citizenship & embraced as one of us? Let’s do that.

Subtweet, but I see 18 months into the pandemic we’re still taking disapproving photos of people on crowded beaches. They’re outdoors! It’s good! The virus is not spread by fun!

Why might childhood tummy pains lead to disordered eating in adolescence? I’m on Radio 4 today discussing with the lovely Claudia Hammond bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

A lad who is 18 in 4 months was referred to an adult #NHS service with a 1 year waiting list. His referral was rejected as not 18, even though he would be when eventually seen. Paeds waiting list too long. This demonstrates complete lack of common sense. The NHS is full of it.

Mental illness changed my body more than I ever thought it would. Recovering has meant accepting the weight gain and scars. Some things I can change, some I can't. My body survived and got me to a place where I can genuinely smile again, so I'll take the imperfections.

Appreciate people are calling for more FY1 jobs, but let’s be real - what would we even DO with the extra FYs other than improve patient safety and doctor wellbeing by running a robustly-staffed service with more time for professional development and a greater buffer for illness?

Definite increase in how many young people seeking help for eating problems at the moment. Well intentioned to have calories on menus but it is people who have or are at risk of eating disorders who will be most effected by it. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The defensive language we use around risk can be a barrier to open dialogue with service users about what is really happening for them. This leads to a lack of connection which makes people less safe. Inspirational start to #RCPsychIC with Dr Chloe Beale is on hiatus 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
