The smoothing looks so good. I think I successfully walked the line of making the radar more visually appealing while retaining storm-scale features. And I'm adding support for custom velocity color tables. Hopefully this is the last teaser post before I release these features.

Reflectivity smoothing has been released! Like all features of the application, it was really important to me that it look professional. To enable it, click "Smoothed" in the Appearance menu.

This severe squall line will propagate across the entire state of ND and into MN tonight. Meanwhile, supercells capable of producing significant tornadoes are forming ahead of the line. Good night for watching radar.

PDS Tornado Warning in North Dakota. Impressive reflectivity signature. Have to turn smoothing off to fully appreciate this one. #ndwx

WPC's Mesoscale Precipitation Discussions don't get as much attention as SPC's MDs, but they always contain really good meteorological explanations for heavy rain and flash flooding. They inventory the atmospheric features in play and review model forecasts. Good stuff.

Asymmetric #Chantal. The eastern side of the storm has echo tops twice as deep as the western side. 50+ mph winds less than 1 km above the surface as measured by the KLTX radar approaching NC on that eastern side.

Saw some impressive videos of shelf clouds and heavy rain in the DC area and had to check it out. This is what an MCS that means business looks like in a volume render.
