This week, a partnership of usfs_r5, U.S. Fire (USFA), CAL FIRE, & Corona Fire Dept #CoronaFire was formed to bring students from all over the country to FI-210 Wildland Fire Origin and Cause class to learn the fundamentals of investigating wildfires. A multi-agency FI-210 instructor cadre consisting of usfs_r5, CAL FIRE, and Bureau of Land Management Fire wildland fire investigators delivered a dynamic training this last week for 39 students from throughout the US, brought together by U.S. Fire (USFA), hosted by Corona Fire Dept #CoronaFire.

Students in FI-210 learned the various ways wildfires start and how to identify the ignition methods, dispelling the myths and the urban legends. Did you know that “Mother Nature” can start fires? The vast majority of wildland fires have some cause due to human activity.

Many wildfires occur every year with some component of human activity. One key priority for wildfire investigators in FI-210 class is to identify trends on how fires are caused so new technologies and engineering, education and regulations can be developed to prevent wildfires.
