A headline joining Trump, crypto, and the Bible. Makes sense. All have elements of make-believe with real world consequences. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…

Douthat's arguments are all versions of the hoary "God of the gaps" move: if we don't yet have a complete scientific explanation for something (e.g., how the brain produces consciousness) there must be a deity. God lives in the limits of our present knowledge.

Vance Boelter had the same mindset as Mohamed Atta; only difference is the god that whispered to him to kill. His murders were not just politically motivated. They were religiously motivated. washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/06…

The UK, Finland, and Sweden have banned or limited medical interventions for trans youth. Not one of these countries was motivated by "Christian nationalism." Sad to see Americans United embracing dogma instead of resaoned analysis. au.org/the-latest/pre…

Vance: "We're not at war with Iran; we're at war with Iran's nuclear program" Too bad J.D. wasn't around in 1941 to advise Tojo. "We're not at war with the U.S.; we're at war with the U.S. battleship fleet"

Major Supreme Court decisions today all decided by identical 6-3 margin. Anyone who thinks that the justices' politics do not influence their decisions is fooling themselves. And, yes, the Court's claim to be a non-partisan institution has taken another hit.

Trump has successfully broken CBS, ABC and WaPo to his saddle. The end of a free press isnt always accompanied by shuttered buildings & jailed reporters; silence by intimidation works even better. nytimes.com/2025/07/02/bus…

Break Harvard, come down hard on those protesting against you, but protect your insurrectionists and religious institutions -- DOJ is now just the enforcement arm of Trump's personal & poltical desires

Some Americans moving to Russia for "traditional values," you know, like invading other countries, killing dissidents. Not new. Some Americans did this when Russia was a communist dictatorship, so I guess there are also idiots who like christo-fascism. washingtonpost.com/world/2025/07/…

What a bad idea. If our politics wasn't poisonous enough already, now churches, mosques, and temples can endorse candidates. (Xians should be happy. Because God will turn out to have at least 3 different views, this supports the notion of a Trinity) nytimes.com/2025/07/07/us/…

Hunter opines on why Dems lost the presidential election. Actually, all Hunter had to do was look in a mirror. His conduct wasn't the decisive factor, but his self-indulgent behavior combined w/ a string of lies was an albatross around the party's neck. washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…

On the Trump lawsuit against WSJ, watch for this play: Trump controls DOJ; also has power to commute. So, he gets word to Ghislaine Maxwell that if she avers that Trump never submitted a letter to Epstein's birthday book, her sentence will be reduced.

This essay is well worth the time investment. Not only does Lents provide an entertaining takedown of the creationist, but the essay is an exceptional, concise primer on genetics and genetic similarity.

What did I tell you? So, it's been announced that Todd Blanche, deputy toady at DOJ, will be meeting with Maxwell. What do you think they'll be discussing.

The body of the Constitution has no reference to religion other than the prohibition of any religious test for office. It sets up a secular government that has no power to promote or inhibit religion. The phrase "church and state are separate" would have been redundant.

Dictator Trump didn't like the numbers in the jobs report today so he has fired the official overseeing production of the report. Will replace w/usual idiot flunky. I didn't think trust in gov. could get any lower but now no reason to trust any info from this administration.
