Plague diary, #115, a day late. This poem, by @adalimon broke me when it was published in the NYT mag (thanks, Victoria Chang for what you do). It was cut out and hidden away in #1's drawer, & I hope it gives her the comfort it gives me. Who knew that comfort could hurt?

Hmm. "the ‘ethics’ of AI ethics is much more malleable, more pliable, and more amenable to strategic operationalization than anticipated. Ethics, it’s said, can be "washed and bashed." Corp governance is failing to embrace that the truth will out & thf the ethics must be real.

I love public libraries because they are built on the principle that books are so important and so necessary to human flourishing that access to them cannot depend on your income.

Just finished STM fabulous "All this could be different", hot on the tail of @HalaNAlyan's "The Arsonists City" and all is well with the universe again. Good literature is good for the soul!

We're seeing and hearing about burnout on a greater and greater scale. And the truth is that self-care isn't enough. We need community care to the greatest extent, and that means systemic change. Because this current system is robbing us of the ability to care for each other.

A few years ago, I helped bring some community members together and a really prominent and successful Jewish woman made a comment that struck me very deeply. She roughly said, ‘for me to truly have trust, I would need to believe that you would hide me’. thread 1/10
