1. Supporting transition to secondary school just got a boost. Secondary school leaders can now download absence data for Year 6 pupils offered a Year 7 place in their school this September. A game-changer for supporting attendance early. Vicky Beer C.B.E.
2. Why does this matter? New Department for Education research shows that as absence increases, the chance of returning to good attendance (0–10% absence) the next year drops—especially during the Year 6 to Year 7 transition. (could link: gov.uk/government/pub…) Vicky Beer C.B.E.
3. This means: Schools can now identify pupils who may need extra support before they arrive in September—and plan for those who may need ongoing help. Vicky Beer C.B.E.
4. Even better: All mainstream schools now have access to an AI-powered Similar Schools report. It compares your school’s attendance with 20 statistically similar schools. Vicky Beer C.B.E.
5. Where to find it all? Both the Year 6 absence data and the Similar Schools report are available via the DfE’s Monitor Your School Attendance tool. Early insight = better support = improved attendance Vicky Beer C.B.E.
