Published today in Nature Cities (Nature Cities) ᴍɪᴄʜᴇʟᴇ ᴀᴄᴜᴛᴏ Daniel Pejic @SombolMokhles David Gordon Ricardo Martinez Sayel Cortes Dr Cathy Oke & I share what 3 decades of city networks research tells us about the potential for #citydiplomacy in climate change nature.com/articles/s4428…

Very happy to see this CIDOB article written by Lorenzo Chelleri, Chair of Urban Resilience Net. As adaptation, mitigation and even maladaptation gain increasing centrality in the context of the #ClimateEmergency, the need for (understanding) #urbanresilience expands 👇

Cities play a central role in driving climate adaptation. In the frame of the #EURegionsWeek, CIDOB and Eurocities organise a seminar with the support of Ajuntament de Barcelona to discuss the challenges and opportunities of climate adaptation in cities 🔗bit.ly/Seminar_Climat…

"European mayors are increasingly embracing the need to adapt their cities to the impacts of climate change. Specific metrics, improved governments frameworks, and access to public financing will be key", Ricardo Martinez, Eugenia Mansutti, Heather Brooks đź”—bit.ly/Opinion811

Greetings from Baku! CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) is following the #COP29. Climate backlash, geopolitical tensions and multilateral gridlocks are so far undermining key negotiations and not only about the main outcome on climate finance #NCQG. Stay tuned for more!

A positive signal amidst #COP29 talks is the number of representatives from Governo Federal do Brasil , host of #COP30, that I am noticing in #Baku, discussing the contribution of cities to climate action. After all, ambitious #NDC 3.0 in 2025 will also depend on a clear urban component #LGMA

With some countries retreating from #ClimateAction, climate-committed countries such as #UK and #Chile gain relevance as they call for ambitious #NDC. #MultilevelAction is key to that and subnational governments are essential partners. Check the publication by WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities 👇

At #COP29 Ministerial Meeting on #Urbanization and #ClimateChange, Anacláudia Rossbach, UN-Habitat Executive Director, builds on the promising signal of Brazil #G20 supporting multilateralism and Paris Agreement and calls to collectively address social, urban and climate needs #LGMA

Promising having many #MDB representatives when addressing #Urban #ClimateFinance in today's #COP29 Ministerial Meeting. Key also having #LRG leaders like Mohamed SEFIANI in the room, recalling that finanching is essential for intermediary cities in the urbanizing global South

"As COP29 initiates a key phase of the climate agenda, the outcomes of Baku are not as compelling as they should be. Financing persists as the most critical element to unlock transformative climate mitigation and adaptation in cities", Ricardo Martinez đź”—bit.ly/CIDOBBriefing60

Despite the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, cities are choosing to maintain their commitment to honouring international climate goals: "In the Trump era, cities will be key to fight climate change", Dr. Alicia Pérez-Porro and Ricardo Martinez 🔗bit.ly/Opinion-825
