I altered my lecture this morning to give a Nobel background leaning heavily on the Bell Labs work from Brus and Steigerwald, Alivisatos, and Bawendi. Then to Murray and Norris and beyond. (I was lucky enough to work a summer at Bell Labs and am on a couple papers with Brus!)
