Another reminder that 'walk facing the traffic' is not a solution to pedestrian safety. Only safe pedestrian infra is. P.s. it's very easy to say on what the pedestrian could have done in hindsight. But quite difficult to avoid such crashes in real-time.

A strange Indian irony: Largest global population, with only ~5% vehicle penetration. Yet we have non-existent pedestrian infrastructure.

If this happened in most countries, an agency like NHAI would be taken to task for neglecting work zone safety guidelines. Here we blame the drivers and move on till the next time it happens.

Any modification (headlamps, seat covers, infotainment etc) that is not recommended by the car maker can be considered as a safety risk and can even void insurance. E.g. apart from breaking off, knobs like these will affect airbag deployment and even impale the driver in crashes

Not condoning the driver here, but our problems will persist as long as we continue to blame only drivers and expect no accountability from road designers and local authorities.

Who is responsible for not letting animals roam on the road: NHAI and local authorities. Who is responsible for traffic calming and median crash barriers to prevent crossover: NHAI Who will be blamed for the 2 deaths in this case: Car driver

While it's easier to blame the biker, the road authority is the bigger violator here for a poor work zone management. If this is not solved, the next biker may not be as lucky.

Another example of how a helmet can be the difference between life and death. Never travel without one especially on Indian roads.

Surprisingly this is the same sonu sood who campaigned for rear seat belts importance a month back. Shows how road safety is misunderstood in India. It's a way of life. We can't pick and choose what we like :).

Pro tip: Your car being German, Japanese, Korean, etc with better handling, stability, etc doesnt give it an edge in preventing crashes. Speed & mass play the biggest role in crashes. Other factors provide comparatively negligible benefits and only encourage more risk taking.

Roadside emergency tip: Never stand on/near the road in case of an emergency. Call the right authorities, put up a warning triangle and move away from the road, beyond the shoulder. 6 people died as they were hit by a truck while standing next to a broken down vehicle.

Guardrails are useless if they are not properly maintained. Rail and poles look poorly maintained. This could easily have turned into a fatal crash. Looks like the Mum-Pune E-way. Request MSRDC and SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF) to look into this at the earliest.

*Sensitivt content alert* Front parking sensors/sensor-based 360 deg cameras should be mandatory for SUVs. Such crashes are now too frequent to be ignored as outliers.

ADAS gets a lot of hate. But these are exactly the kind of crashes and deaths that ADAS can avoid. It's impossible to stop all drivers from sleeping, but tech can save them when they do sleep. Please don't turn OFF your car's ADAS on highways at least.

Hydroplaning happens when the tires lose their grip on the road and instead travel on a film of water on the road. Hydroplaning reduces the driver's ability to steer and brake. It's essential to know how it is triggered and what can be done to avoid triggering it.

Glad to see someone use the word 'crashworthiness' here. Remember: getting 5 stars in NCAP makes the car 'Crashworthy' i.e. capable of doing well in test-similar crashes e.g front, side. It doesn't make it 'Safe' i.e. doing just as well in all kinds of crashes e.g rollovers.

It happened in Malaysia but can happen anywhere in the world as well. This is the reason why children must not be seated on the lap or stand out from the sunroof from a moving car !! Always seat children behind belted on a child safety seat 💺

Happened yesterday on the Samruddhi Expressway. The car has 9 airbags and excellent crashworthiness (minimal cabin damage). Yet, 1 occupant died. Why? He got ejected as he was not belted. For safety, simple things like wearing a seat belt matter more than the features.

5-star rated car: ✔️ Passenger cabin integrity: ✔️ Yet both people died as they weren't belted. This may sound harsh but consumers wanting 5-star rating/6 airbags safety without having ALL occupants belted in the car is like wanting to run without learning how to walk.
