We have had a report on birdguides.com of a Wood sandpiper and a Red-footed falcon on the Washland today (9 May) viewable from the riverbank at the reserve. Do let us know if you pop by and happen to see either! RSPB Birders RSPB England RSPB RSPB Lakenheath Fen

On the Washland this morning (8-9am) there were 5 Whimbrel briefly, a displaying Little ringed plover, 2 Common sandpipers & 4 Garganey (3 drakes). We've also had Little gull, Black terns & Common terns recently. RSPB Birders RSPB Lakenheath Fen RSPB England RSPB

Kingfisher sightings do seem to be on the increase again, and one has been showing well from Mere Hide this morning. Thank you Mali for sharing another super photo. RSPB Birders RSPB Lakenheath Fen RSPB England RSPB

First a bird you expect to see on this perch outside Mere Hide at RSPB Lakenheath Fen a Kingfisher, but followed by a slightly more unusual one, a Juv. Grey Wagtail then a Grouse Wing Cadisfly, with incredibly long antennae landed on my rucksack RSPB BBC Springwatch

Its not usually a wise idea to antagonise a Coot, but that's what this Juvenile Great Crested Grebe did at RSPB Lakenheath Fen yesterday, but all it got was a short but intense stare, lucky Grebe...

Now is the best time to see Bitterns, with the females making regular feeding flights. At RSPB Lakenheath Fen on Sunday, this one almost flew straight in to Joist Fen Viewpoint! Still seems a little quiet here & elsewhere - not sure if they're late breeding or fewer nests this year.

Thank you David for your super sightings report. Now is the perfect time to visit the reserve- and it's meant to be a little cooler this week! RSPB Birders RSPB England RSPB England RSPB

There is currently a Glossy ibis on the Hockwold Washes, viewable from the riverbank footpath. It was spotted much further east a short while before by Haydn, our Assistant Warden, so it could be quite mobile. RSPB Birders RSPB England RSPB RSPB Lakenheath Fen

Thank you nicola crockford for this amazing footage. It's an honour to know that these cryptic, complex and long-lived beasts are living underwater and very close to us. This one- at 5ft long- must be very old. RSPB Birders RSPB England RSPB RSPB Lakenheath Fen

An amazing video of life below the water surface on the river Little Ouse, which consistutes our northern boundary on the Suffolk side of the reserve. RSPB Birders RSPB England RSPB RSPB Lakenheath Fen
