Monday is upon us and you know what that means... #MINERALS! Orthoclase is a type of feldspar that is one of the most common minerals making up the Earth’s crust. But this cool mineral is not confined to Earth; it has also been found in the igneous rocks of the Moon and Mars!

Julia is a junior at Rutgers, working as a Social Media intern for RUGM. Her favorite part of being an intern is learning about new topics in geology while creating content to be shared, especially when she has the opportunity to do a play on words or make a corny joke!

Good news, the RU semester may come to a close but #MineralMonday never ends!! Malachite is a popular green mineral, often used to create jewelry and sculptures due to its vibrant color. Pigments made of malachite can be found in the tomb paintings of Ancient Egypt!

RUGM here to add sparkle to your #MineralMonday ! Crocoite, known as β€œRed Lead Ore,” is a mineral that is often found as large crystals that are bright red in color, translucent, and have a glass-like appearance. Crocoite is extremely fragile and should be handled with care.

DID YOU KNOW? #Earth isn’t a perfect sphere! While Earth spins, gravity points toward its center. And because Earth is not perfectly solid throughout, this causes the North and South Poles to be slightly flattened! #science #geology #rugeo #museum #space #planet
