At a beautiful memorial service yesterday for his father, David Horowitz, Ben Horowitz🇺🇸🇮🇱 told the following story. When Ben’s friends would call themselves communists, David would say: Go to a library where there are endless books on communism. Read one- read them all- you will

In the Torah we are told of the High Priest: “a golden bell and a pomegranate, shall be upon the hem of the robe round about" (Ex. 28:34). In 2011 they found one of the bells in excavations near the Temple Mount.

On Shavuot we often recall the Midrash: God held the mountain over the Israelites & said "Accept the Torah and if not you end here." I heard in the name of the Maharal not that they would die, but end -- i.e. without the Torah Israel as a people would not survive.

Note the sequence in the famous words of Ruth: “Where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people will be my people, and your God, my God.” Becoming a Jew to join a family is a good thing and should be encouraged. Belief follows belonging.

As Shavuot begins tonight, we "will rejoice in the gift of Torah, the “tree of life,” still sheltering and inspiring us. In that shared celebration we will find courage and resilience, as our ancestors did so long ago." More in David Wolpe’s #Impressions: adl.org/resources/arti…
