Amazing interview! It's a pleasure to work with and learn from Rachel, looking forward to some very exciting collaborative science in this space.

Arrived in beautiful Cape Town ready to start another Antarctic adventure with White Desert, this time with my favourite planetary geologists Rachel Kirby and @ProfAndyTomkins. Lots of gear to pack for close to a month on the ice. But before that, lots of Cape Malay food... 🤤

Not a lot of variation in colour, but these are the warm layers that will see me onto the ice in Antarctica later this week. Until then, poring over inventories and more superb South African flavours (rooibos latte, beef bobotie) and some giant furry wildlife.

Hanging on for dear life as we and all our gear hurtle down an icy slope (simulated).  Superb Cape Malay again tonight - aubergine, chickpea and tamarind curry. I will remember this version fondly when I eat the dehydrated one in the field...

Gorgeous day in Cape Town at the Elephant's Eye and amazing food yet again for what could be our last evening in Cape Town. We're on standby to fly tomorrow if the weather is good. Ready for a month of hard work and adventure on the ice ❄️

We have arrived in Antarctica! It was great to catch up with the other two Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future teams in Queen Maud Land this season. Looking forward to a few days of training before heading up into the mountains for some awesome science!

Packed up and packed in to the plane for deployment to our first remote site... only we had to abort and turn back due to strong katabatics and a rougher surface than previously sighted. We're convinced we saw meteorites from the air! But onwards to plan B, plan C...
