At #APS2019, Beth Darnall, PhD highlights the danger of nocebo effects in opioid tapering, and emphasizes the importance of applying the same biopsychosocial model we do to pain intervention to opioid tapering.

“How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one, but the lightbulb really has to want to change.” Leave it to Rob Edwards to lead his presentation on pain psychology with a joke! #APS2019

Great women in science content at #APS2019 & #CanadianPain19 has me thinking. I’ve tried to “be more like a man” in my career. But why discount femininity? What if minority qualities were valued equally professionally? Conforming to [white, cis] masculine standards is getting old

As white women it’s imperative to acknowledge our privilege and work to understand the violent history from which that power manifests. And more important - that we relinquish power to make room for WOC and women with intersecting minority identities, so we can ALL rise together.

Fantastic work (and great read!) by @Sabine_Soltani and Dr. Melanie Noel - pulling from pediatric depression models to generate a new, integrative model of the co-occurrence of depression and chronic pain in youth and contributing factors. Next up - novel tx?? bit.ly/2RcnVwd

I request that students call me Dr. Cox not because I have an ego, but because there is often an assumption that I'm not Dr. Cox while others are Dr. ______. When it is assumed that #WOC are doctors more than it is assumed they are "Mrs.," students may call me Monica. #lesson
