Your reminder that churches don’t pay taxes because they are supposedly spending their money to help their communities through things like food banks, shelters and after-school programs.

Congressmen should, obviously, be making like 250k. Having low wages for Congressmen just means that 1) It's a lot more ultra rich people who don't need the salary 2) Very competent people will go into industries where they can easily make more money

doing this will guarantee that the only people who ever run for Congress will be already rich. you would never see an AOC ever again

Unsurprising. All that handwringing about declining birth rates & even a billionaire doesn't want to care for his children, financially or physically. They just want to force women into motherhood & poverty.

I have a story out today about a remarkable woman named Linde Jacobs (Linde Jacobs). Three years ago, at 33 years old, Linde found out that she carried a genetic mutation for a devastating brain disease, frontotemporal dementia, which begins in middle age. (thread)

Still can't stop thinking about how Starbucks could sign a contract to give one greedy CEO a $113 million pay package and a private jet and handout over $70 million in golden parachutes to two CEO who failed, but can't sign a fair contract with nearly 12,000 of its union workers.

You should not have to go viral in order to get your insurance company to pay for the cancer treatments your doctor says you need to survive. Glad this story had a happy ending. Many others do not.

Is exercise really ā€œ1.5 times more effective than antidepressantsā€? 🧠 No, argue Nicholas Fabiano, MD and colleagues—and it might be irresponsible for us to keep circulating this bit of misinformation. ā€œThis claim erroneously arose through the comparison of effect sizes from ā€œvery low

Really wealthy ppl finding out a small group of working class ppl on strike can fuck up their day, ruin their vacation, & cost them time & money is my FAVORITE reason to support strikes.

The fact that if a vaccine changes a serious infection to a mild infection, despite not preventing infection it's STILL a success is a concept which seems to be just absolutely beyond many people.

For once, everyone in my corner of Twitter is empathizing with him as a person, so let me be contrarian and explain why this rubs people the wrong way In America, as our government collapses, the rich just build their own parallel systems and the poor eat shit. Healthcare is

People don’t even realize that the super rich often create an ecosystem around them of service workers who are not affluent…. housekeepers, nannies, landscapers, repair people, etc.…. have all just potentially lost their only source of income. It’s truly sad.
