NUJ welcomes the prospect of opening up more of the BBC to local communities across the UK but urges proper funding and investment, including support for local radio, following Tim Davie's speech on a vision for the BBC. nuj.org.uk/resource/nuj-w…

NUJ Sadly absolutely no sign of adequate support/ resource for BBC Local Radio coming from Tim Davie. Indeed, in another speech recently, he was touting more regionalisation as the way forward.

#RAJAR Local BBC Radio continues to face challenges. BBC London lost 61,000 listeners — a 13 percent fall — and 782,000 hours (down 40%). Other local stations such as BBC Somerset, BBC Wiltshire, and BBC Northampton posted double-digit percentage drops in reach and hours.

Tony Blackburn OBE. Ofcom You’re the guvnor Tony! But must respectfully disagree here. Many of us still hold on to a hope that the BBC will reverse their massacre of Local Radio. That was totally unfair, both to seasoned professionals and trusting listeners, and may have been averted by effective red tape

Tony Blackburn OBE. Ofcom You're entitled to your view, of course, Tony, but I'm not sure why you feel the need to restate it so often. I think Ofcom is a failed regulator, but for once they're right about this. Indefensible to find the resources for a new station after drastic cuts to BBC Local Radio .

Jason Horton Andy Collins BBC Beds, Herts & Bucks JVS Great you listen, maybe BBC could make it all local again. I don’t want to hear what’s happening in Gt Yarmouth from where I live. And as for the late shows, well how can a national show be called LR ? If anything remove Jo from Saturday night - abysmal broadcasting

Radio Fanatic Despite the general decline the figures go up and down so often wonder how many they have keeping diaries in each area? Radio Northampton has a unique & excellent presenter & show 10-2. Seems strange, despite the cuts, it has suddenly had double digit loss?

Radio Fanatic Jason claims BBC local radio is good… but not that good, eh? Not good enough to be funded properly in preference to a half-baked digital strategy that’s not what the audience wants.

My local station is actually performing very well …despite recent cuts. Mike Zeller’s Breakfast Show is No 3 out of 39 stations for the percentage of the population listening, Steph Finnon has the No 1 Mid Morning Show on the BBC LR network for percentage reach. Brilliant.
