We recently found that forest change is accelerating in the Alps (doi.org/10.1007/s10021…), but will this trend continue into the future? In a new paper in Global Change Biology (doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16…) we take the pulse of future forest dynamics, studying 22 clim scenarios- a thread

Have you been using forest stand or landscape models to study the effects of climate change in Europe? And are you interested in contributing your simulations to a large synthesis effort? If yes we’d love to hear from you! For more info see edfm.wzw.tum.de/simulation_dat… 1/3

Over the last month we managed to GPS-collar 29 red deer in #BerchtesgadenNationalPark (German Alps) in coop with Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management TU Munich. Many hours of waiting and freezing fully paied off! Now we'll study the effects of human activity on space use and behaviour of red deer

I'm psyched that our work made the cover of Global Change Biology! Picture shows beautiful #BerchtesgadenNationalPark (taken last fall, right before the arrival of a cold front). Great work @dominikthom1 Werner Rammer Sebastian Seibold et al.! doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16…

I am pleased to share a new preprint, the final chapter of my #PhD #thesis. We map canopy height globally with a probabilistic deep learning approach fusing #Sentinel2 and #GEDI. Preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2204.08322 Website: langnico.github.io/globalcanopyhe… @EcoVisionETH ETH Zurich Yale University

Using GEDI data for the Alps, we found two alternative states of forest structure. Particularly in submediterranean forests long-lasting transitions to open canopy conditions are likely after disturbance. Great work by Ana Stritih @corneliussenf link.springer.com/article/10.100…

The work of @GruenigMarc aims at developing high resolution #future #forest trajectories and #disturbance maps for the European continent. In his recent #blog, he shares some insights on why it’s so important to visit the forest he’s currently modelling resilience-blog.com/2023/02/07/exp…

Boreal forests are particularly affected by climate change - therefore ecosystem models that incorporate permafrost and soil organic layer dynamics are crucial. Voila - here is POLE-FM: gmd.copernicus.org/articles/16/20… Great and fun collab led by Winslow Hansen 🌲🐻‍❄️🌡️
