We're excited to announce the first Evolving Self-organisation workshop at GECCO 2025! Submission deadline: March 26, 2025 More information: …-self-organisation-workshop.github.io

New preprint. Accelerated co-design of robots through morphological pretraining. With Sam Kriegman. We pretrained a universal controller in minutes through differentiable simulation. Then we used it as a prior for zero-shot and few-shot evolution to discover robots like this:

pleased to share 'DiffLogic CA', made of the finest blend of NCA and binary-gate circuits! adopting Felix Petersen's differentiable circuit learning, we learn *stateful* circuits, recurrent in space & time. by Pietro Miotti, me, Alex Mordvintsev, Ettore Randazzo 1/5 google-research.github.io/self-organisin…

"Differentiable Logic Cellular Automata" is here!🎉 End-to-end differentiable, discrete-state NCA using logic gates! Self organizing systems, coming to hardware. Check it out: google-research.github.io/self-organisin… work done with Eyvind Niklasson, Ettore Randazzo and Alex Mordvintsev 1/4

What Is Life? Evolution as Computation By Blaise Agüera (@blaiseaguera.bsky.social) Just finished reading this thought-provoking little book. Highly recommended if you’re interested in artificial life, self-replicating computer code, how it all relates to evolution, chaos, and AI. mitpress.mit.edu/9780262554091/…

In exactly three months, my book “What Is Intelligence?” will be released via The MIT Press @mitpress.bsky.social & Antikythera. Within, I rethink traditional notions about AI, the brain, intelligence, evolution, and the big philosophical questions that have dogged these topics for millennia.
