Why is Los Angeles Times parroting UC’s lie that their proposed wages would be the highest among peer institutions? They are actually among the lowest. Stanford pays up to 45% more than UC’s proposal. U of Michigan, where cost of living is lower, pays nearly 10% above UC’s proposal.

UC operates with 1/2 the per-student funding it did 20 years ago by paying poverty wages to lecturers and grad students. As those workers negotiate better wages, rather than demand adequate funding, UCOP is making austerity cuts that'll damage UC's teaching and research mission.

Congratulations to Faith Aloboudi (she/her) Frankie Massa and Rogelio Castro (2022 CoB-KIBM Scholars) on their graduation! All 3 have secured research technician positions in neuroscience labs, we are so proud of them!

In an unconscionable move by the UC, University of California Police arrested 3 workers on felony charges and confiscated their possessions for writing messages in chalk and washable paint calling on UC to stop underpaying workers.🧵

The UC signed our (@uaw2865/@uaw5810) contracts fair and square in December of 2022. Since then, instead of following them, they've stonewalled us at every turn and forced us to protest for our rights. And now? They're trying to intimidate us out of fighting for our rights.

“This is, in my opinion, very clearly part of a larger coordinated crackdown of union activities across the UC. UC has systematically tried to renege on the contract they signed with UAW and the graduate student researchers union," said William Schneider kpbs.org/news/local/202…

"In the face of UC’s attempts to union-bust through criminalizing protest and targeting union leadership, UAW members have made it clear that they will continue to escalate pressure until all retaliation stops." ow.ly/4q3v50PqlyN UAW Region 6

Introducing the 2024 CoB-KIBM Scholars cohort! This summer we'll be mentoring these students alongside their host labs. All of them have incredible drive to begin doing neuroscience research full-time over 10 weeks, and our job is to help them secure future research positions !

🧵1/ New preprint! 🧠 Loneliness is a state that is comprised of a constellation of features (drive to socialize, unpleasant state, heightened vigilance) and we found that these features map onto different parallel circuits.
