I see a lot of classrooms still planning their literacy block around small groups based on what they used to do under other types of curriculum. If you still have teachers that think planning must revolve around small groups and rotations, you might want to share this with them!

Timothy Shanahan Sharing this with everyone I know, Tim! For years, we’ve been told by our top leaders in Central Office that reading AND math should be taught through centres & a significant amount of PD & money bolstered this philosophy. It never made sense to me!

Will be teaching the CT class next year and my coteacher and I have already had this disagreement... Prioritize whole group instruction or small group instruction. I am more whole group because of dosage! Way more time spent engaged in reading vs not.

What an embarrassment for the SAT to radically reduce passage length. The ability to sustain focus on & make meaning from longer text is an indicator of achievement & likely college success. Simplistic text erodes any differentiating factor for those kids who actually do take the
