The INCREDIBLE win for social housing yesterday is a testament to our collective power (& to what a great campaign @houseRneighbors put on!). Thank you to all the grassroots organizers & volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this possible!

NEW: In August, Seattle canceled Nickelsville’s proposed 15-unit tiny house village in Rainier Valley. Until now, it was not clear why. Records obtained by @realchangenews.bsky.social show that about a dozen neighbors complained to the city prior to the permit denial. realchangenews.org/news/2025/03/0…

After months of advocacy by Nickelsville, and a week after I reported on Seattle's cancellation of its Brighton Village in @realchangenews.bsky.social, the city seems to have reversed course. HSD said this Wednesday that Nickelsville can resume developing the site into a tiny house village.

ICYMI: great reporting from @realchangenews.bsky.social about the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights moving through #waleg right now. WA may become the 13th state in the U.S. to END the racist, sexist exclusions that shut domestic workers out of minimum wage rights. realchangenews.org/news/2025/03/2…

The city spent $89,000 on a sweep of the BLM garden not counting what was spent on SPD that day, and conducted an average of 5+ sweeps a day for 3 years, put a SODA zone over the park, gave housing money to SPD/jails, and the county kept the youth jail open. Who is this for?

And as pointed out by @realchangenews.bsky.social & Guy Oron the total over the last three years, two fifths of those 'sweeps' were carried out under severe weather conditions x.com/lelulolololol/…

New op-ed by UW professors Aria Fani and Dan Berger in @realchangenews.bsky.social: “Anyone who knew Eygi understands that her legacy far exceeds the limits of citizenship and national belonging. She would be standing with Khalil, Öztürk, Mahdawi and her peers at UW” realchangenews.org/news/2025/04/2…

In case you missed it: artists are organizing to save the El Rey, a vacant building in Belltown slated for demolition, and repurpose it for affordable housing and community spaces. They just need Seattle’s Office of Housing to sign off. @realchangenews.bsky.social realchangenews.org/news/2025/04/2…
