My (semi) annual look at 2 of the weather variables I pay attention to in Bellingham: cumulative GDD and cumulative Water Year precipitation using daily data from 1942 to present. Thanks to #rOpenSci #rnoaa and #ggplot. tl;dr it's been a warm, dry spring in terms of #wawx

Thanks NYT for this Q&A. But I don't think saviour narratives are appropriate ways to frame a kingdom of life. Intro also misrepresents a recent paper I was part of by overstating the role of fungi in C cycling. Fungi are important & neglected organisms. But let's avoid hype.

It was great to collaborate on this research investigating the impact of plant parasitic nematodes on nutrient transfer to mycorrhizal fungi. Congratulations to first author Chris Bell and to Emily Magkourilou for a really interesting story!

Dear GSBI community: it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Diana Wall, our scientific chair. This is a tremendous loss for our community. Please see our website for a longer tribute: globalsoilbiodiversity.org And CSU's article here: source.colostate.edu/diana-wall/

Any ideas what this is? It is growing on a root of Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanese) which was cleared and stained with trypan blue. Plant was grown in greenhouse in sterilized soil and I am assuming it is some kind of fungal pathogen. Thanks for any thoughts!

What determines transfer of carbon from plants to mycorrhizal fungi? For the past 2 years, we debated this question. And I mean debated. nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/np… #TansleyReview New Phytologist 1/n

Wondering what bridges have to do with the web? This talk is for you. The analogy is solid and the implications are relevant. May also be a little biased bc this is my nephew.
