All the kids are doing it, so why can’t a bunch of mid 30s radiologists? Lots of fun, as always. Pandemic social hours are about to start again!

fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-e… Please reconsider gathering this year. I know that's hard, but it will *literally* save lives. That includes you, fellow physicians! Too many doctors I know personally have plans because they think "...but we will be doing it safely"

Good intro read from Rachel Draelos, MD, PhD for those venturing down the compsci/med combo path. Help keep your code tidy! (I need to be better about integrating with Git) glassboxmedicine.com/2020/09/22/how…

20 years ago I fought along with Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) and AMA to prevent Step 2 CS from being used. It is an exam which did nothing to help doctors, nothing to help patients and served only to grow revenue for the USMLE. At long last it is gone.

The cat and mouse game continues. I write a productivity-boosting app for work, it gets flagged as a virus. I revise my code to prevent the false positive, then it gets flagged as a virus again months later... Round and round we go. I wish there was a better solution.

I solved #ThisWeeksRiddler (by @xaqwg) like a chemist. It's all about that chirality! Also I absolutely love combinatorial math puzzles. Easily my favorite Riddlers.

The video by CGP Grey 🐝 about #savesnowdays is both deeply personal (Minnesotan here) and very irrelevant to my personal life(#childless). How many districts are trashing snow days? Schooling in aggregate: v. important. Day by day: inconsequential. Let kids have joy, #savesnowdays!

Collab'ing on papers via email (sending drafts) might actually be *worse* than doing so via fax, where at least the delay in send/receive reduces the chance of parallel versions. We have SO many true collab tools: Google, Teams, Slack... yet it's Sisyphean to get others on board

jacr.org/article/S1546-… Someone else already wrote this article so I don't have to. Now all I need to do is get people to read it.

nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… Figs 3, 4 are very important to understand. If you know a person who isn't a physician, scientist, statistician, etc. who doesn't understand them, take the time to explain them thoroughly. #antivaxxers won't likely be swayed, but you dunno w/o trying.

Something tech figured out years ago while academic medicine absolutely struggles to move past: email is one of the worst ways to collaborate on a project. Please, if you are under the age of 40, use your neuroplasticity and learn to use the better tools that are out there!

citationgecko.azurewebsites.net I am very interested in tools like this. A way to visualize the interconnectedness of literature. Web of science was conceived as this but doesn't do it well. connectedpapers.com is paywalled. Any good free options other than citationgecko?
