In general, the patchwork nature of local governments and special districts throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties do little to alleviate pricing woes and the high delivery costs of municipal services.

Politically, Long Islanders have prioritized local control for decades with the expectation that this model will deliver the best quality of service for residents - but that approach has fundamentally high costs.

As I noted, “We can’t have our cake as a region and eat it, too. We can’t say, ‘Housing is expensive.’ It’s expensive because we want the best schools, hospitals, fire departments and libraries.” #GetaFoggyIdea
