Sigh "GPs wrote >1.2 million mental health plans ... but only 1/3 were reviewed, meaning patients’ progress was largely unmonitored by their GPs." No, GPs billed a 1/3 of their reviews using a MH Medicare number. The rest were billed with other numbers. insightplus.mja.com.au/2022/28/access…

Medicare has made it COMPULSORY that we use MH item numbers for pts with MH problems. There is no MH item number for >20 mins. This means if you see me for 40 mins with a physical health issue you get $113 back from Medicare. MH? $76. This is outrageous health.gov.au/resources/publ…

I’ve been watching this play out & Ian Hickie it’s not ok. During the pandemic Australia’s GPs have been the absolute engine room of our health response, are woefully underpaid & are beyond exhausted. They’re our frontliners AND do the bulk of MH work. We must support them.

Fabulous thread on Mental Health care in Gp. From the ever brilliant @GilliantheGP (Don’t mess with herā¤ļøpatients ) The cracks that GPS plug held together with our expertise on complexity. 😄 Needs resourcing. āœ… And needs it now.āœ…āœ… Or How the ā€œteamā€ fails the GP

Fred Practice owner here: our GP travelled 2000 km to work in a remote town and made a small loss whilst being separated from family for a week to service the community…. But sure, it’s a rort šŸ˜• abc730 Adj Prof Karen Price, 20-22 RACGP Past Prez ACRRM

If you're a #GP working in a low socioeconomic area, and #bulkbilling patients in need - this #budget is just another slap in the face, in a long line of slaps in the face. No rebate increase, no BB incentive increase. The message is clear - we're on our own. RACGP ACRRM

Excellent UK study of effect of care plans and review on primary care costs for people with serious mental illness. This planning and implementation primarily accrued savings in secondary care. Suggests this activity is of high value to health system. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/he…

Study finds that team-based primary care was correlated with increased emergency dept. visits for patients recently diagnosed with dementia when compared to similar patients receiving care from a physician-only primary care practice. bit.ly/3AWLYHT

A part of my life is missing. My GP just told me that I had a stroke just recently and that’s why I didn’t know where I was and why. My 12yo is devastated (just spoke to her on the phone). I’m so tired and emotional. My life has been a mess since COVID. I want to go home NOW

Story time. 1. I once worked in a practice where one receptionist(X) did the lions share of the work. X was so effective, efficient & proactive that the useless practice manager (PM) was oblivious to how much work they actually did. [Good work is often invisible]

This wealthy, well-resourced country depends on the labour of immigrant health workers. We should be grateful. And can we be honest to ourselves about what that means for other countries' health systems? newsin.asia/sri-lankas-onl…

I have a friend with a baby in ICU fighting for their life with an antibiotic resistant bacteria. This is why I will NOT support pharmacists prescribing "UTI" antibiotics for presumed infection without examination. These drugs are precious & we are squandering them for convenience
