The Vermont Pollinator Working Group organized “Pollinator Celebration Day” this past weekend, to mark the end of National Pollinator Week. Taylor Ricketts gave a keynote about native bees & Leslie Spencer taught attendees about gardening for native pollinators.

“I will be working with a remarkable team of experts from across the country on the links between nature and human well-being,” Taylor Ricketts said. “Doctors, biologists, public health researchers, economists, and others...”

Thrilled to welcome Carina Manitius to the lab! 🎉 Carina's research focuses on the social and economic impacts of conservation policies, aiming for a just transition for nature. At UVM, she'll explore how expanding protected areas affects the agricultural sector and food systems.🌍

Last Friday, we joined the Vermont Pollinator Working Group Annual Conference to discuss issues related to habitat and pesticides! Leslie Spencer (PhD cand) shared her research on pollinators, pests & blueberries, and CJ (MS student) connected with VT's pollinator experts. 🐝

📢 New study by former postdoc Tafesse Estifanos "shows that a widespread malaria-fighting strategy—bed nets—becomes less effective as deforestation rises. The research underscores how important a healthy environment is for human health." Read more 👇 go.uvm.edu/do4np

Facing complex issues like declining biodiversity means integrating diverse viewpoints & variables. University of Vermont's Taylor Ricketts & colleagues from across the world collaborated on the ipbes report to address these issues. From The New York Times' Catrin Einhorn:go.uvm.edu/6ctex
