Breeding Barn Owls have been scarce this year, so it was a real boost to hear from Alan Leedham with news of 2 healthy chicks ready for ringing. Here’s hoping 2026 brings a better season for these incredible birds! 🦉💛

Fantastic to receive this image from our ZEISS Birding trail cam this morning! Great to see young Common Terns fledging from the rafts at South Staffs Water 🚰 Blithfield Reservoir. Really positive news for the site! 🐦📸

A session at Venus Pool with Shropshire Ornithological Society at the weekend saw us ring 8 Reed Warbler 2 Cettis Warbler 4 Blackcap 1 Robin 1 Garden warbler 7 Chiffchaff 1 Wren Great to see recently fledged Cetti's warbler, showing recent breeding success! But an absence of recaptures was unusual?

Another Nightjar nest found and chicks ringed today in North Staffordshire! 🐣✨ Brilliant to see the project growing into new survey areas. And honestly… how can anyone say these little fluffballs are ugly? 😍 #Nightjar #Conservation #Birds

Good news from Staffordshire! 🎉 Another successful visit to South Staffs Water 🚰 Blithfield saw 17 more Common Tern chicks colour-ringed, making it 35 ringed so far this year! 🐣 💚 #WildlifeConservation #CommonTern #Birds

One of our members had a surprising sighting reported: a Starling they ringed in their Stourbridge garden was dropped mid-air by a Peregrine Falcon, also ringed by the same member that year! 🐦🪶 #birdringing #peregrinefalcon #starling

Some more brilliant news from the region! We have successfully ringed three more Osprey chicks, meet 4R3, 4R4, & 4R5. This is the 3rd year the adults have been successful with all 3 birds fledging. Let's hope we see them back in 2027!! Those talons!!

A stunning evening in Staffordshire 🌙 saw us ring 2 Juvenile Nightjars, showing another successful site for breeding. The sites we are seeing most success, are those that are harder to access to public and dog walkers, which is interesting!🤔 Think about your impact on nature!

The season continues to yield strong results for the Nightjar project. A newly surveyed site produced another unringed male. Interestingly, retrap rates remain unusually low, suggesting high turnover or wider dispersal. #Nightjar #fieldresearch

Migration is underway! This weekend on Cannock chase we ringed over 100 birds, including Chiffchaff 29 Willow Warbler 27 Blackcap 14 Garden warbler 11 Whitethroat 5 Robin 3 Blackbird 2 Nightjar 2 Singles of Linnet, Redstart, Tree pipit, Goldcrest & Yellowhammer. #birdringing

Two Staffordshire sites checked for Nightjar last night, great results! One site had an adult male & juvenile ringed, plus another adult male at the second site. Also saw 2 juveniles perched. Looks like a strong breeding season! #Nightjar #Ringing

We were proud to support our local police today on a wildlife crime warrant. The suspect was believed to be catching and selling wild finches. No birds were found, but illegal trapping equipment was seized inc lime sticks, a strong result in the fight against wildlife crime. 👏🕊️
