States cannot effectively combat torture and executions without stringently regulating the trade in goods that could be used to inflict these acts. In 2021, the 46 Council of Europe member states adopted a landmark Recommendation on #TortureFreeTrade👇 search.coe.int/cm?i=090000168…

We call on all 46 Council of Europe member states to fully implement the Recommendation, by strengthening their national legislation and taking enforcement measures. No member state should permit or benefit from the trade in pain and suffering.

Council of Europe member states will soon be reviewing the Recommendation. As technology develops, so must our regulations. @Amnesty & Omega Research Foundation call on Council of Europe states to revise the lists of Prohibited Acts and Controlled Goods, to effectively address technological and market developments.

States should act globally🌍 Join the Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade, And support a Torture-Free Trade Treaty: ❌Prohibit trade in goods that have no other purposes than torture or other ill-treatment. ✅Regulate export of law enforcement equipment so it is not misused.
