As a horse owner & rider, as well as an epidemiologist, these are deeply troubling times. Many animals require daily care and #veterinary assistance. #COVID19 response must consider vets and vet nurses as #keyworkers. We must protect #AnimalWelfare #exercise #mentalwellbeing

Very happy to share these results, now out on Nature Communications: the characterization of a #microsporidian in An. arabiensis from Kenya, with decreased #Plasmodium transmission capacity. Thanks to Jeremy Herren for involving me in this great project! nature.com/articles/s4146…

#SARS_CoV_2 /#flu interactions – I’m asked about this a lot. A recent preprint logically concludes potential for a negative interaction but with increased risk of severe disease/death in those coinfected: doi.org/10.1101/2020.0…. My thoughts.. it’s complicated.. 1/8

Very interesting report for England. Rise in ONLY rhinovirus positivity. #flu comparison would be useful. Why RV sooo different? Presumably more transmissible: lower infectious dose/different transmission modes? environment stability? high serotype variation/pop susceptibility..?
