Let's take a closer look at this photo: 1. It was posted on 6th June. 2. The bus stop looks to have the number 1384 on it. What happened on 6th June that may be relevant? Eid began. Where is bus stop 1384? The 'National Stadium' in Dublin. So if we google 'eid dublin national

If we continue to believe that we have a duty to safeguard people, rather than safeguard their fundamental rights, we wont help keep people safe, we will merely continue to embed a culture of othering. Every person who requires residential support should have access to advocacy.

Important posting this. Advocacy needs to be at the heart of Safeguarding which needs resourcing & skill. Advocacy is totally undermined if rooted in ableism, compassionate ageism &, as Rob rightly says, othering. SW practice & management must not feed these. #paternalism

The technology changes across the NHS have left millions behind. With just about every GP visit or hospital outpatient appointment I come away thinking ā€˜yes, I can (just about) do that online, but what about those who cannot?’. It’s pretty shameful that we haven’t cared.

Is the thing ultimately about AI and social work whether we believe in humanity, with every single one of its flaws, over highly intelligent process? Despite seemingly everyone telling me that AI is to be welcomed, embraced and championed, I’m kinda wedded to the humanity stuff.

We should all be exceptionally concerned that #Reform are running councils, including children’s and adults services. Mentioning the age of the elected councillors is ageist and unhelpful. And surely their vile, divisive politics is enough reason to be worried sick anyway?

Of all the texts that underpinned my social work education, Mental Health, Race and Culture is my most valued. I remember thinking I couldn’t believe that I’d found an actual page-turner! Fernando later became the mainstream of my ASW (AMHP) training too. I’m grateful to him.

Our Practice Model training today. Lots about reflection and risk. The risk of us. Of our intervention. Of our restrictions, lawful and otherwise. Of our dominant perspective. Of our bias. Of our influence. Of our systems and of our ā€˜need’ for conformity.

I have grown more strongly against assisted dying as I’ve seen the Bill and its flaws progress. It’s an easy position for those with supportive families and communities but having been a social worker for decades, I worry most about those with little support around them.

You’ve only to walk onto a hospital ward anywhere in the UK & see the spectacular mess, misunderstanding and misuse of DNR and the attitudes that underpin its use, to know that the #AssistedDyingBill is so deeply concerning. That social work has been so silent on this is shameful

Rob Mitchell I mention it briefly here but the debates have not recognised the pressures from the perpetual narrative that our major problems are due to our ageing society. How can that not impact on how or when older people feel they have become a burden. adass.org.uk/reflections-on…

On the warmest night of the year, the owl was back outside my window, making a ā€˜whoo-oo’ sound like it’s repeatedly just discovered its won Ā£50 on a fecking scratch card.

18 months ago these #Bradford streets were choking with fumes from buses and cars. Not now. Ignore the haters with agendas, Bradford is beautiful and I am very proud to work for its people.

"We are not social workers" is the laziest trope in policing. Always ends up showing the person making complaint doesn't understand what social work is - and this confused article by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner shows exactly that. thetimes.com/article/d5f402…
