Early start to Manchester today to visit Back on Track an organisation dedicated to providing community learning and holistic support for adults facing multiple disadvantages. Will be observing the support offered to individuals and engaging with local stakeholders.

Today is Social Mobility Day. Listen to our Commissioners Resham Kotecha, Rob Wilson & Ryan Henson discuss what they would do to #Shift Mindsets. What is one thing you would do to #ShiftMindsets on #SocialMobility?

It is hard to imagine a more stupid thing to do than erase the name Sir John Madejski from the school he founded and funded. People understand his positive impact on Reading across sport, education and the arts - apart from this particular academy trust. Not a great start.

Terrific interview with Alun Francis, ⁦Social Mobility Commission⁩ chair. Some honest straight-talking on some of the key issues facing our country if we want people to get on. feweek.co.uk/alun-francis-c…

Is the Greenshaw Learning Trust the right organisation to run this school? As well as what happens in the school, knowing and understanding the local community is essential to get buy-in. You can’t be successful if local people don’t support you. I would advise reversing this quickly.

Thank you to over 500 people who have signed my petition to reverse Greenshaw Learning Trust decision to remove the Madejski name from the school he funded and founded. Any school needs the trust & support of its local community, this is not the way to get it. chng.it/njz5kkpcQS

Great to see this petition climbing to well over 1000 now! Renaming a school has little relevance to success as previous rebrands have shown. It’s more important to adopt the proven internal practices that work - of which there is now plenty of evidence. chng.it/2WHhDDyk8J

A very enjoyable dinner with Baroness Hilary Armstrong, chair of the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON), and colleagues. Enlightening discussions on tackling entrenched disadvantage. ⁦Social Mobility Commission⁩ .
