Hmmmm methinks that NZ farmers will be sending some more produce to a supermarket and restaurant near you in due course if this is correct. More pressure. 🐑🧀🧈🍎🇳🇿👨🏻‍🌾

I’m calling it now… the last goverment was until recently one of the worst of all time for nature, farming and food policies THIS GOVERNMENT IS WORSE And I have a little theory about what’s happening… 🧵

🚨 Britain is a sitting duck for the next major animal disease outbreak — and the government knows it. A damning report from the National Audit Office just dropped. Here’s what you need to know 🧵

There’s few Journalists more on top of Defra brief these days than Helena Horton Clearly written thread highlighting significant cuts that will have very significant impacts on farming businesses, rural communities & wider society who need farmers to deliver many public goods

Council tax bills set to rise at fastest rate in 20 years. The average home's council tax bill will increase by £359 by 2029 So what happened to “Labour would freeze your council tax”? Or “Not a penny more on your council tax…No ifs, no buts”? Non-stop lies.

Looking at the figures and taking reasonable estimates, it looks like DEFRA's budget for farming is being cut by about 20% in real terms over the next 3 years. I guess food security isn't high on the pecking order.

HS2 will cost as much to build as the International Space Station. At current spending levels the budget would’ve funded nature-friendly farming in England for >40 yrs All waved through without comment; why is food security & nature such a low priority? thetimes.com/comment/the-ti…

"A really very small minority." So it's now optional to go after minorities is it? Regardless of the fact that minority FEEDS YOU. It's a significant proportion of commercial farms being asked to pay a tax at levels exceeding annual profit. Marxist, misplaced entitlement.

On the #FamilyFarmTax, an 8 week technical consultation on the proposed legislation is now open, which closes on 15 September 2025 according to paras 90 and 91 of the Explanatory Note. Unlikely to lead to any changes, it's meant to just reflect tweaks to the draft legislation.

Helena Horton (@horton_official) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Stuart Oh lovely just seen the govt has said it'll have no impact on food security because we can just buy it from abroad instead when farms go bust.

Joe Stanley (@joewstanley) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It would seem The Labour Party have decided to ignore all evidence & press ahead unchanged with their destructive farm death tax. Justifying its impact by noting we are a rich country & can import our food. Then, there’s the human impact to come.

Rob Halliday (@cvfarming) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Totally unsustainable. The problem is the reduced rural area becomes the baseline for the next generation & so it continues. We are becoming ever more reliant on other countries to provide our food & environment. It's a morally bankrupt stance.
