I fear we’re heading for a standoff. Putins inner circle appears to have no moral compass. Things could very easily spin out of control with Finland emerging as a safe haven potentially becoming NATO member on the Russian border. This won’t go down well in the Kremlin.

I just learned we’ve lost Ryuichi Sakamoto, a major force in World music. I feel privileged to have been a part of his journey having worked together with him and Yukihiro Takahashi, both former members of YMO. With love I recall being drawn to Ryuichi’s warm invitation to Tokyo.

What’s happening indeed? Today we lose Seymour Stein the great impresario who opened so many doors to so many careers from the Undertones to Madonna. He appeared In Aquarium Studios in Paris when I was mixing Pop Muzik. He had the scent for success on Sire Records R.I.P.

That was a busy weekend and I want to thank the BMG team headed by Stuart Paterson who mined my archives to find something special for Record Store Day. Not forgetting all the stores who promoted the event to meet the enthusiasm of the punters!

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence was playing this morning on Radio 3 - such an iconic soundtrack from Ryuichi Sakamoto. It was a year ago today Ryuichi died, but his spirit lives on in this emotive theme…..beautiful!

Pete Brown lived in the shadows of the supergroup Cream but brought so much light into their repertoire with ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’, the liberating ‘I Feel Free’ and so much more. A poet who was a force of nature in the mainstream of popular music. R.I.P. Pete Brown
