Novelists sometimes use the 'what if?' riff to make a more interesting story. Philip Roth used it in 'The Plot Against America'. What if the pro-Nazi Charles Lindbergh defeated Franklin Roosevelt in 1940, unleashing a wave of Nazi-like antisemitism on American soil?

Perhaps some similarly talented author can make something of our current, corona-slimed situation. What if, when the novel virus first took hold in Wuhan, China, we not only suspended international flights, but tested or quarantined the tens of thousands of citizens returning

from infected regions, instead of letting them wander through crowded airports, spreading the virus? What if COVID-19 was stopped in its tracks, or slowed to the point that it was contained, without having to shut the economy down? What if?

Surprised and delighted that the Maine Library Association has honored me with the 2020 Katahdin Lifetime Achievement Award for children's literature. Wow!

We just lost a giant of literacy and publishing. Dick Robinson, who followed in his father's tradition of honoring teachers and librarians, and who made Scholastic a model for children's books.

I recently attended the award ceremony at the New-York Historical Society. They selected 'We Own the Sky as the best children's historical novel for 2022. On the left, that's me with Scholastic's Emily Seife, who edited the book. On the right, Alice Stevenson presented the medal.

Much too soon to say this is headed to Broadway, but that’s the intention of the producers, if all goes well. Book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe, music by Ryan Garrett Fielding, directed by Christopher Ashley. Casting call is from the Telsey Office.
