💾 To explore this question, we combined a dataset of press releases published on EurekAlert! with a dataset of publications categorized into basic and applied research, kindly provided by Kevin Boyack

📊 More than 1/2 of the press releases were related to basic research, particularly in life & earth sciences and physics & engineering. Press releases in biomed & health sciences and social sciences & humanities were stronger associated with applied research.

🔎 We also explored the similarity and readability of press releases compared to the titles & abstracts of the research papers mentioned. Here, we find a stronger adaptation in the case of publications in basic research.
