For AZ state and local races, just want to emphasize how not final they are. Maricopa County said last night it probably has 700,000 early ballots to tabulate. So take caution in calling or making assumptions on close races.

For AZPM: In the hours after the election, abortion providers found it difficult to celebrate the passage of Prop. 139, the initiative that enshrines the right to abortion in Arizona’s constitution. Why? Because of Donald Trump’s re-election. news.azpm.org/p/azpmnews/202…

Back in 2018, myself & Christopher Conover were handed the keys to a weekly radio show. This week, we celebrated 300 episodes! I've been the producer for about half of the episodes, and it's led to some of my favorite reporting adventures over the years! originals.azpm.org/p/radio-buzz/2…

Venezuelan mom pulled over for driving too slowly in Tucson. Two of her four kids were in the backseat. State troopers called Border Patrol. That's the last the family has heard from them. azluminaria.org/2025/02/14/tuc… w/ Yana Kunichoff & Carolina Cuellar Colmenares for AZLuminaria

Judd, you wrote: “In an interview with Popular Information, his first with any media outlet, Hermosillo said DHS's account was false.” Danyelle Khmara broke the story last week for AZPM. If we truly value independent journalism, give credit to local outlets.

Judd Legum emailed me Sunday—2 days after I broke Jose Hermosillo’s story—asking for help, promising credit. I helped. Today, he claimed he was first to interview Jose (4 days after my story). When I called him to say that’s not ok, he yelled, swore, then finally credited me.

Very disappointing, unacceptable behavior from a fellow journalist Judd Legum. (And odd for him to claim that he was first to interview Hermosillo, after AZPM, Arizona Daily Star and at least one New Mexico outlet already published stories with quotes from Hermosillo.)

NPR memo: Pope Leo offers thoughts for journalists. The times are “both difficult to navigate and to recount,” and demand that “each one of us” should “never give in to mediocrity.”

Solidarity to my dear friends and former colleagues at El Faro & El Faro English, who have had to flee El Salvador after being threatened by Bukele, the president who has hired himself out as a convenient jailer for Trump. washingtonpost.com/world/2025/05/…
