The most complete golf resort—3 great courses, terrific hotel—in Ireland has to be Rosapenna. Great to return after a long time away. I played all the courses over two days, ate and stayed at the hote.

This morning I went out first off at St. Patrick's. I'm always intrigued to see if the course lives up to the near hyperbolic praise, and it really does. Truly exceptional right out of the gate, with two mid-length 4s and a great 3. The landscape and topography is amazing.

From there the startling thing is the shifts in elevation and the number of times the routing shifts, so the wind impacts your shots differently. Lots of width, so you're not going to lose a lot of balls there.

Last night I played Cruit Island, the cult classic about an hour from Rosapenna Golf Resort. Quirky and sometimes even weird, but delightful in spots once you get used to the blind tee shots (#1, #3, #4, #5).

Of course the star of the show is the 6th, an epic (if short) par 3 over a rocky outcropping to a green perched 140 yards away. Worth the price of admission, though I liked a couple of other holes a lot as well (#2, #5, #7)
