Back from conference in the USA. Things are BAD there too. Perhaps worse in some places than the UK. Pts spending days in the ED. No beds. Hospital closures. Chaos. But here a few things that there were WHOLE lectures about that we don't have to worry about in the UK. 1/

Tonight Channel 4 is broadcasting a Dispatches documentary about the NHS, mostly centred around EEAST and Watford General Hospital. This documentary was made without the Trust’s knowledge or consent and we have not seen the programme before broadcast.

The far-right are trying to "cancel" TV presenters objecting to their extremist and almost certainly illegal immigration policy. This is very scary. theguardian.com/football/2023/…

Glad to see this finally published for all to see. I will never understand why it has taken so long. 12 hour delays were allowed to creep up and up paralysing departments which could not get new patients into cubicles. 12 hrs was / is a clear marker of system distress. My wife's journey through the UK visa process to citizenship cost ~£15,000 over 6 years. The US journey for a spouse to gain residency, then citizenship is ~$1700 EU costs vary, but are low. For Italy it's €250. Germany €280. How do we justify this?

Just an observation from the last 9yrs: Every specialty thinks their niche area should be something the ED focuses on & should provide care for, which really could happen in an outpatient setting. The answer is NEVER: later hours and weekends for outpatient subspecialty care.

For many consultants in first 7 yrs this offer is actually a pay CUT because they will no longer receive a share of the equally distributed LCEA pot (as many trusts have been doing since COVID) as it no longer exists. This is ridiculous! BMA Consultants Vishal Sharma
