I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!

A busy week in Rome working on online, radio and television pieces covering the lying in state and then funeral of Pope Francis. Hundreds of thousands are expected over the next 3 days. I have often found St Peter's to have quite a noisy din, but today it was very prayerful.

Thousands continue to queue to see Pope Francis' coffin in Rome. It's quite a special place to be at anytime, but all the more during these days.

Around 400,000 people lined the streets of Rome on the day of Pope Francis' funeral. An extraordinary event to work at. Some powerful sounds, not least the 'Christos Anesti' chant of the Eastern Catholic churches and the mournful peeling of St Peter's 'Il Campanone' bell.

"In loco isto, dabo pacem." "In this place, I will give peace." (Haggai 2:9). Wonderful, as always, to spend a couple of days at the Benedictine abbey of Pluscarden in Moray.

Moving north has given us the chance to see more of Caithness and Sutherland. Today, John o' Groats (the northernmost settlement on the Scottish mainland), the 12th century St Mary's Chapel in Crosskirk, the Duncansby Stacks and the Forsinard Flows among others.

Peace be with you all! This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world.
