New paper! The PFC & hippocampus interact in many cognitive/emotional behaviors, but how the PFC exerts top-down control over hippocampus is a mystery. Ruchi Malik found long-range GABAergic projections from PFC to hippocampus performing this function (1/3): authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S00…

These novel long-range projections GABAergic are actually DOUBLY DISINHIBITORY: by inhibiting disinhibitory VIP interneurons, they enhance feedforward inhibition in CA1. This also enhances the propagation of gamma oscillations across CA1 + PFC (2/3)
