Space Shuttles were the forefront of spaceflight from 1981-2011. There are four remaining, on display across the USA. As of yesterday - I’ve seen them all! In chronological order: me & Endeavour (LA, 2017), Atlantis (Florida, 2020), Discovery (DC, 2020) & Enterprise (NYC, 2025).

Supra-Arcade Downflows (SADs for short), shown in the quoted figure, are certainly very cool - but definitely *not* intelligent life! They are high-altitude downflows in the Sun’s corona, occurring above solar flares. ☀️

Wow, we’ve just had an X-class #SolarFlare! The event came from an active region over the edge of the Sun, so flare levels were likely higher than the measured X1.2. #spaceweather

Today’s #SolarFlare was the first X-class event (the strongest category) since March, and launched an impressive filament west of Earth. The region is rotating out of view, but may still be flare-productive when it rotates back to face us two weeks from now.

As one flare-productive active region rotates off the Sun, another comes into view! A new active region in the north-east (top-left) just produced an M5-class #SolarFlare. Let's see if this region continues to produce as it rotates to face Earth. #spaceweather
