It's a hot and dry start to the growing season, how does that affect canola management? Here are my thoughts from a recent hot, windy day

It's safe to say U.S. spring #wheat conditions are atrocious. There are only 12 other weeks since records began in 1986 (3 in 1989, 9 in 1988) where conditions were worse than the current 27% good/excellent. There were 7 weeks in 2017 where poor/very poor was higher than 37%.

The sunflower crop has emerged and is hitting those critical early growth stages. What do you need to look for out there today, and what do you need to plan for in the next few weeks? Here are my thoughts...

Check it out - #CROPLAN spring wheat planted in early May vs #CROPLAN winter wheat planted in October at the #InnovationFarm by Washburn ND. Going to keep an eye on this one, could be another potential crop option for ND growers!

Farming in rocks and sand. These Colorado mountain valley “soils” provide an excellent environment for #CROPLAN #canola production! The sandy field on the left is good, but the rocks in the field on the right keeps the sand from blowing, heats the soil, and seals in the water.
