#Satawupress: Cleaning sector wage negotiations crisis deepens

Wage Negotiations between eight unions led by SATAWU and employers (represented by the NCCA and BEECA) started in mid-June.

When the parties failed to reach agreement, a dispute was declared by the unions & the process went to conciliation in July under the CCMA.

The latest round of negotiations between the unions and the Cleaning Sector employers will resume this morning.

As we have maintained throughout, a strike is a last resort. But we have been left with no alternative.

The Employers response thus is nothing short of an insult to workers. We are entitled to a decent living wage.

The industry's record is appalling, continued use of labour brokers, terrible working conditions and given slave wages.

“Our members can no longer tolerate the conditions under which they work while employers are enjoying the profits of their labour”
