Save Bristol Zoo Gardens supports Save Bristol Gardens Alliance 🌳🌲🍃 in their legal challenge against Bristol Zoological Society’s plan to turn its botanical garden site and the world's 5th oldest Zoo into a luxury housing development.

BRISTOL ZOO JUDICIAL REVIEW Fantastic news! Judge just gave permission for Judicial Review to go ahead on *every* ground of challenge. A giant step forward to overturning planning permission and halting environmental destruction. Bristol City Council Bristol Zoological Society Bristol Green Party

Does this by Bristol Zoo Project Bristol Zoological Society somehow feel spiteful? A 2nd auction 3 days later will feature 45 of the zoo’s original Victorian benches, created especially for the zoo between 1850 & 1880, & located around the gardens. A judicial review is pending Save Bristol Gardens Alliance 🌳🌲🍃

Yes. And indicates how little regard Bristol Zoological Society has for the heritage and history of the Gardens. Now that the #planning #permission is in doubt this auction must not go ahead. These artefacts belong to Bristolians. The Society is merely a custodian.

The people currently running Bristol Zoological Society are intentionally vandalising the world's 5th oldest Zoo. It is a tragedy they ever gained control of the 200-year old Society, of which they are only the custodians. We will do everything we can to secure a better future for BZG.

Between 2019-2022, Bristol Zoological Society spent £3.252 million on 'governance'. To now claim that issuing a couple of letters from solicitors is diverting valuable resources away from “vital charitable funds and saving threatened species”, is risible and desperate.

BZS raised £161,000 auctioning 300 irreplaceable artefacts from its 200-year old history as the world’s 5th oldest Zoo. Context: the current budget to develop Wild Place stands at £69.4 million / £161,000 is just over one year of the CEO’s salary. Was it worth it Bristol Zoological Society?
