As part of our commitment to the 16 Days of Activism, we are holding a Domestic Abuse awareness stall in King George Hospital canteen on 5 December between 12:00 - 14:00. Please come along and show your support. #16DaysOfActivism #DomesticAbuse

Our Domestic Abuse stall is set up ready to meet you at King George canteen between 12-14. We have an IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate) from Redbridge coming along so please come along to support. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are victims of domestic abuse.

Makaton training for nurses is now available via our training system for all BHRUT NHS 🏥 staff; we encourage our staff to develop their understanding of Makaton and learn basic signs to support patients with communication difficulties. Within a week of introducing Makaton training for nurses, over 30 BHRUT NHS 🏥 staff completed the eLearning. This additional training, has received very positive feedback, and a great uptake. Looking ahead to a new and amazing 2024, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, Makaton style of course. Since introducing the Makaton e-Learning, we have had many BHRUT NHS 🏥 staff being glad that they can access the training via our system. Gary Etheridge RN Daniela Capasso 👏

Domestic Abuse posters are up around the Trust in patient, public & staff toilets. They are a great source of signposting for DA victims. The QR code can be directly accessed via a smartphone to Refuge. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will be affected in their lifetime.

We now have a Hospital Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (HIDVA). Caroline can provide in-person support for individuals of all ages, experiencing or at risk of DA, other forms of gender-based violence, such as sexual violence, honour-based violence & child sexual exploitation

The BHRUT CDR Team placed ‘Safer Sleeping’ advice up in Children’s ED at QH & KGH, Dahlia ward, Tropical Lagoon and Children’s outpatients. All with a view to help reduce Sudden Infant Death syndrome #SIDS. #CDR #BHRUT Gary Etheridge RN Daniela Capasso Emily Bell The Lullaby Trust

The weekly Additional Safeguarding Adults training introduced to embed knowledge, has seen excellent attendance so far - this training is a mini version of the mandatory Adults Level 3 but delivered to a max of 10-14 nursing/HCA staff at a time, delivered through engagement.

It’s Dementia Action Week. Look out for our team as we will be coming to your ward areas across the week on both sites. We will be bringing an activity trolley to engage patients in different activities. We hope you help us & join in the fun & spread the awareness of dementia 🦋
