Summer fun 1b: Think I cracked how to do Barnaby Rudge in What the Dickens! St Marylebone Fest Had been obsessing on the raven rather than one of Dickens’ most sympathetic characters. Such freedom and (tenor) joy! And cor anglais suits the raven! Gavin Roberts

Summer fun 1c: I know how it ends! Drafted final movt of What the Dickens for St Marylebone Fest Gavin Roberts The stunning passage in David Copperfield as the Micawbers set sail for Oz. Amazing author but troubled man - there’s a melancholy that close contact with him inspires

Prof. Frank McDonough Dickens lived next door to St Marylebone Parish Church for many years! Our St Marylebone Fest will be celebrating his life & works with a walking tour & a performance of a new piece composed & devised by Martin Bussey based on the Devonshire Terrace Charles Dickens mural stmarylebonefestival.com/events

Our friends St Marylebone Fest have planned a busy series of community events at St Marylebone Parish Church over on the other side of Regent’s Park, starting in a week’s time. Check them out! stmarylebonefestival.com/events

First up in What the Dickens! St Marylebone Fest comes Barnaby Rudge, @tomkellytenor with Gavin Roberts piano. One of Dickens’ most sensitive figures, Barnaby describes himself as ‘silly’. His soulmate the raven, ‘harbinger of death’ is represented by the cor anglais of Clare Hoskins

The St Marylebone Fest returns next week, celebrating the stories of our local community through a variety of performances. We’re proud to work with our friends St Marylebone Parish Church including throughout winter in getting vital supplies to local families. stmarylebonefestival.com

Excellent rehearsal today for What the Dickens! Here: 🎵 Rosamund Shelley 🎭 Alex Knox channelling their inner Micawbers with Gavin Roberts superintending while I think how lucky I am to have such fine performers on the project! July 20 St Marylebone Fest scores coming to Composers Edition

2nd in What the Dickens! July 20 St Marylebone Fest : Scrooge. Not Alistair Sim but better! The resonant bass of Andrew Copeman. His singing last year partly prompted the work. Bah! Humbug is backed by the carolling of St Marylebone Parish Church choir. Is the door knocker really Marley’s Ghost?
