"This century, rapid melting of ice sheets and mountain glaciers has raised overall global sea levels by around 1.5 millimetres a year. Melting ice has contributed 75% to the overall increase in ocean mass." — Australian Centre for Antarctic Science (ACEAS) in The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand theconversation.com/heavy-water-ho…

On the last night of the Research Vessel Atlantis transit to Alaska, Melissa Truth Miller deployed 10 drifters from Scripps Institution of Oceanography's Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory. The drifters measure sea surface temp & barometric pressure to support better weather forecasts. Learn more: go-bgc.org/expedition/eas…

It has been a massive joy to work with Maggie Gonzalez from Loyola School of Environmental Sustainability on observations of some of the coldest waters on Earth using SOCCOM data! Huge shoutout to Brown DEEPS and @LeadershipAllia for supporting her work this summer.

Last week, after months of hard work and lots of conversations, Science Magazine launched a new series—spearheaded by News from Science's Elizabeth Culotta, Shraddha Chakradhar and me—about how researchers are #decolonizing science. science.org/toc/science/38…

We are excited to announce that the new phase of SOCCOM has been funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and NOAA for three more years of operation under the direction of Scripps Institution of Oceanography oceanographer Lynne Talley: scripps.ucsd.edu/news/scripps-o…

Excited to see that Scripps Institution of Oceanography will lead the next 3-year phase of Southern Ocean monitoring through the U.S. National Science Foundation and NOAA funded SOCCOM. Together, SOCCOM and Global Ocean Biogeochemistry Array have transformed how we monitor and understand ocean health.
