It’s been great working on the LSSS committee this year, first as the Trade Union and Society Liaison Officer, and now as the General Secretary. We’ve had a lot of achievements this year. I’m looking forward to continuing such success in 2024. ✊

We are very saddened to hear this. Jonathan’s work on left politics, populism, and feminism will always hold importance. Jonathan was also a UCU activist who always valued student-staff solidarity. We send our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students

Very sad to hear that Jonathan Dean has passed away. I fondly remember his talk on the UCU at a Leeds Student Staff Solidarity event when I first arrived in Leeds. His pieces on left wing politics were very interesting, and I’m forever grateful for his feedback as part of my PhD transfer panel.

As I’m finishing university soon, I’ll be leaving Leeds Student Staff Solidarity. It’s been a great few years mobilising students to support staff. We’ve had plenty of successes, including lobbying LUU to support strike action. I’m sure students will keep up the fight for a fairer HE system. ✊
