The first priority in our countdown, no. 10! How can survivors of historical abuse be best supported? Survivors of historic sexual abuse have continuously gone underrepresented in ‘mainstream services’ and we hope future research can go on to support them.

Priority 9 highlights the importance of attending to the specific needs of minority groups as they often face unique barriers. Throughout the project we have ensured to try and reach these seldom-heard groups to engage them and give them a voice. svpsp.eventbrite.co.uk

Priority 8! Research has found that some survivors experience the criminal justice system to be ‘unsatisfactory’ and some even report it to be more traumatising than the abuse itself. Come along to our webinar on June 22nd to hear what we have to say! svpsp.eventbrite.co.uk

7️⃣ This priority focusses on the need for research into trauma-informed care(also highlighted in multiple national policies). This approach to care means carers and professionals assume those in care are likely to have trauma and take steps to prevent triggering this trauma.

Priority 6! There are frequent complaints from survivors about a mismatch in the support they wanted and the support received. Resources are finite- we must ensure they’re put into areas of support most valued. There is still time to join our webinar.. svpsp.eventbrite.co.uk

Half way! Survivors are often ‘exposed to insensitive or victim-blaming practices’ in their dealings with the police and justice system. This highlights the need for change to prevent survivor re-traumatisation (when trauma is reactivated and memories, emotions, etc resurface)

We had fantastic attendance at our webinar yesterday! It was brilliant to be able to share these results with so many and to see so many people with a vested interest in the topic. A lot more information will be uploaded to the JLA website in due course…
