Midurethral slings (MUS) are gold standard for treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with approx 3.7 mill implanted btwn 2005-2013! A common post-op challenge is urinary retention. How can we optimize assessment of this? #midurethralsling #sui #jmigjc JMIG

Sarah Weinstein (@s_weinsteinmd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Primary objective: to evaluate the rate of immediate postop urinary retention detection after passive vs active VT after treatment with MUS for SUI *Passive VT: spontaneous bladder filling postop *Active VT: bladder is retrofilled water sterile water What’s your hypothesis?

Sarah Weinstein (@s_weinsteinmd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Findings: performance was similar between active and passive void trial to detect immediate postop urinary retention Passive VT allows pts to avoid a Foley catheter postop (as long as they can void) #jmigjc JMIG #voidtrial

Sarah Weinstein (@s_weinsteinmd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Some other considerations: Foley catheters can potentially increase risk of UTI and patient discomfort … so what’s your preferred method for void trial? Are you #teamactivevt or #teampassivevt? #jmigjc
